Waiting on Wednesday (3)

Waiting on Wednesday is a meme hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, where we showcase some of our hotly anticipated releases!

I have two WoWs this week. First up is:

THE BONE SEASON by SAMANTHA SHANNON
Release date: 12 September 2013
Publisher: Bloomsbury

The Bone Season begins in 2059. Nineteen-year-old Paige Mahoney is working in the criminal underworld of London, based at Seven Dials, employed by a man named Jaxon Hall. She works as an envoy between secret cells: she drops in an out of people's minds. For Paige is a lucid dreamer, a clairvoyant, and in her world, the world of Scion, she commits high treason simply by breathing. It is raining the day her life changes forever. Attacked, kidnapped and transported to Oxford, a city that has been kept secret for two hundred years, she meets Warden, a Rephaite with dark honey skin and heavy-lidded yellow eyes. He is the single most beautiful and frightening thing she has every laid eyes on – and he will become her "keeper".

This comes out in over a year and I don't think it's YA, but there's been a lot of hype for this book and comparisons to J.K. Rowling, so I'm really curious. Poor Samantha Shannon must be feeling the pressure, especially since this is her debut novel (she's a student at Oxford University), and I'm really hoping this book lives up to the hype and manages to carve its own niche in the book world. The blurb definitely sounds intriguing, so fingers crossed.

Another book that looks AMAZING...

TEETH by HANNAH MOSKOWITZ
Goodreads | Amazon (pre-order)
Release date: 1 January 2013
Publisher: Simon Pulse

Hannah Moskowitz's (author of BREAK and INVINCIBLE SUMMER) TEETH features a sixteen-year-old boy whose family, in an effort to cure his ailing brother, relocates to a remote island where legendary magic fish are said to have healing powers, and he discovers the island has terrible secrets, including a half-teenager, half-fish.

I don't even know what to say. There is so much potential for awesomeness in that tiny blurb + the added reassurance of knowing Hannah Moskowitz wrote this + a gorgeous cover! What more could you ask for??

What are YOU waiting on this Wednesday?

  1. TEETH seems like such a weird story, but I think that makes it even more covetable. I've heard good things about Hannah's writing. Thanks for sharing!

Feel free to check out my WoW here.

  3. Teeth does not exactly sound like my cup of tea, but the first one? sounds so good! And comparisons to JK Rowling? Definitely catches my interest :)

    1. Hehe I totally understand that; it sounds like something you'd think of in a drug-induced haze or something. But yes, I'm really curious about The Bone Season! Especially because the synopsis doesn't remind me of Harry Potter at all; maybe it's the writing style? In any case, if she's like Rowling at all in any way I'll take it!

    1. Aww, why not?? (But I can totally see how some people may not like it, hehe) I really hope The Bone Season lives up to its hype!

    2. A remote island, magic fish, a boy that's half fish half human...yeah, they're really not me, though I can see that some people would love the idea. :) I think I just stay away from sea stuff too - no sirens or mermaids, the ones I've read have been quite poor.

    3. Hehe fair enough!! It definitely sounds like it's going to be a bit 'out there'. I haven't read too many siren/mermaid books yet so I'll def check with you to avoid the bad the ones.

  8. I forgot to tell you how much I love the name of your blog:) I am now following you as well. I saw on another post that you loved "This is not a Test," which I just ordered from Amazon. I'm so excited to read it:)

  9. Comparisons to JK Rowling? I have a feeling that comparison alone will have people wanting to buy it -- she's one of the most popular authors I know! x) But Hannah Moskowitz is also one of those amazing authors that everyone seems to adore, so I really need to check out Teeth too. Half-teenager half-fish is a sell enough for me! ;)

Awesome pick for your WOW this week! :)

    1. Haha, definitely! Would be hilarious if it's nothing like JK Rowling and is just a huge marketing ploy. A very successful one, though, because I'm definitely going to be buying it for curiosity's sake alone! And yes she is; I really can't wait to read Gone, Gone, Gone, it sounds amazing. Thanks for stopping by!

  10. The Bone Season sounds _really_ interesting. I can't wait to see the cover of the book.

Teeth is already on my Wish List, after having heard what a stunning author Hannah is supposed to be. I should probably read her earlier stuff, too ;-)

    Thanks for the rec's! <3

    1. Yes, me neither! So much cover potential for this one based on the blurb. I hope it's really dark.

Ah, I know what you mean. I really want to read Gone, Gone, Gone because I've heard it's brilliant. Definitely have to get on that!

  11. I've heard about The Bone Season and really can't wait to see if it's as good as Bloomsbury claim. Though they do tend to be pretty good with picking great books. ;)

Teeth sounds really good too! I love the cover for that one. Nice picks!
