Waiting on Wednesday is a meme hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine where we showcase some of our hotly anticipated releases!
I have two WoWs this week! (Summaries and covers taken from Goodreads)
MAGISTERIUM by JEFF HIRSCH
Release date: 1 October 2012
Publisher: Scholastic Press
LOVE this cover + promises of monsters/witchcraft + hopefully some cool technology vs. magic contrasts. Can't wait to read this!
EDEN by HELEN DOUGLAS
Release date: 2013
Publisher: Bloomsbury
2012 – A star-gazing teenager discovers the planet Eden, only visible from Earth every 700 years. 2053 – The first colonists inhabit this second world. 2085 – Life on Earth is decimated by an alien parasite brought from Eden. 2012. Cornwall. Eden Anfield loves puzzles, so when mysterious new boy Ryan Westland shows up at her school, she’s hooked. On the face of it, he’s a typical American teenager. So why doesn’t he recognize pizza? And how come he hasn't heard of Hitler? What puzzles Eden the most, however, is the interest he’s taking in her. As Eden falls in love with Ryan, she begins to uncover his secrets. Her breakthrough comes one rainy afternoon when she stumbles across a book in Ryan’s library – a biography of Connor Penrose, her oldest friend, written over 50 years in the future. Confronting Ryan, she discovers that he is a boy from the future whose mission is to prevent Connor from discovering a planet he names Eden, in honour of the girl he loves. A planet with a deadly virus that is destined to destroy the earth in a hundred years time. Is it really possible to change the future? |
Absolutely freaked when I saw this on Goodreads! Planet colonies + time travel + race against time + potential for tragic romance = pretty darn close to my dream novel. Helen Douglas also graduated from my university! A definite MUST READ for me.
The ominous '2013' - no month, no date - is depressing, but fingers crossed this will be released sooner rather than later. Can't wait to see the cover!
That's it for me this week! What are you waiting on? Link me because I'd love to see.
The synopsis of Eden was riveting! There's a lot I could say about this novel, but when you said, "Planet colonies + time travel + race against time + potential for tragic romance = pretty darn close to my dream novel.", I was just like YES!!!!! I also want to see the cover and release date. Why isn't there a release date? Why are they so cruel? LOL. Really love this Waiting on Wednesday post:)
ReplyDeleteHahaha I know, right?!? Gah, dying for a release date. So much potential for awesomeness. Fingers crossed it lives up to our expectations! I'll let you know if there are any updates (hopefully within the next six months or so...lol). Thanks Zoe!
DeleteNot one, but two awesome picks! You go, girl ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing, Lauren :)
Jennifer @ Dream Reads
Haha whenever I have a WoW that doesn't have a cover I feel like I have to have another one that does! But they both definitely look great. :) Thanks Jen! And I totally agree with your pick this week!
DeleteWow! Eden! <3 This sounds amzing. magisterium does too, magic and dystopian mixed is a good combo BUT EDEN sounds freaking fantastic, thanks so much for putting it on my radar, too bad there's no release date (yet) so I can't put it on my list but I'll be keeping a close eye on it!
ReplyDeleteNew follwoer
Check out my WOW
Hehe I'm glad you like the sound of it! Really can't wait to hear more about it as well. Thanks for the follow, Jade! I've followed you back. :)
DeletePlanet colonies + time travel + race against time + potential for tragic romance = Mimi's book soul mate too! Holy wow, that sounds so awesomely epic! Time travel isn't that popular in YA so whenever there's an epic book about it, I can't help but be intrigued! I can't wait to see the cover for it too, which is bound to be really awesome :)
ReplyDeleteGreat picks for your WOW this week! :) <3
Hahaha good to hear, Mimi! And I totally agree! I love sci-fi so I'm so excited that it's been so popular lately! Douglas really knows how to write a pitch.
DeleteFirst, the blog is looking GOOD! :-)
ReplyDeleteSecond, I _adore_ the synopsis for Eden! Just added it to my Wish List, and now I can't wait to get my grubbies on it. Not too sure about Magisterium, but it does sound pretty good. I'll keep an eye out for reviews before I decide.
Great picks! :-)
My WoW Pick!
Aw, thanks Katie!!! That means a lot! :) Gah I know...Eden sounds almost too good to be true. And it's definitely a good strategy to wait for reviews first these days. I've been so disappointed by books lately! Hope Magisterium is good!
DeleteEden sounds amazing! Can't wait to see the cover. And I already have Magisterium on my list as well:) Great choices as always, Lauren!
ReplyDeleteHere's my WOW.
Thanks, Tammy! I can't wait to see it either. I'm so excited for Scarlet as well! :)
DeleteBoth look fabulous choices. However Eden looks particularly good!
ReplyDeleteI'll be adding yet another book to my wishlist. haha.
Great WoW!
Thanks Livvy! Glad you like the look of it! LOVE your WoW pick as well. ;)
DeleteHOLY CRAP o_O Eden sounds incredible! I had never heard of it before but now I'm absolutely dying to read it! Just added it to my "stalking" shelf on Goodreads haha.
ReplyDeleteMy WoW - Mind Games
Hahaha I'm not surprised you like it given your love of sci-fi!!! That's so brilliant that you have a stalking shelf; I should totally do that... I always forget about books I've marked as to-read and stumble upon them later. We can look out for it together. :) And great Wow pick! Mind Games looks awesome!
DeleteHoly Crap, Eden sounds so good!

ReplyDeleteSo why doesn’t he recognize pizza?
That is such a crime. Seriously.
Awesome picks, L! :)
LOL so true!! Though I'd love the chance to discover pizza again and have an excuse to eat loads... Thanks, A. :)
DeleteOMG these both look FANTASTIC! How have I heard of neither before?! Eden looks especially amazing. I love time travel books, and have been looking for more to read! So now I am totally pining for Eden. Thank you SO SO SO much for sharing both of these!!
